Ann Widdecombe Vs Prostitutes
I couldn’t resist this documentary from ITV1 last night, as Conservative MP found about prostitution. Ann’s quite character and she’s obviously come a long way from the dying days of the Major government when she was quite despised, and given the nick name Doris Karloff.
The program was reasonably entertaining but did we learn anything we didn’t already know about prostitution? No, not really. It turns out street girls are predominately class A drug users and sell sex to pay for their habit. Wow really!? Sadly, we didn’t learn anything new and this rather seemed like a vehicle for watching the brave Ms Widdecombe confronting prostitutes, and possibly pimps, on the street - and getting a mouthful of abuse and face full of beer for her troubles.
And whilst those moments of confrontation were actually great viewing, they were all in the trailer for the show anyway - so the best bits had all been seen in the 30 second advert for the program that been aired all week. I don’t want to be too down on it though - it was funny to see Ann in action and I will most likely watch the rest of the series, where I think she will be taking on other undesireable elements in the community.
