Wow, I was shocked: I expected David Archuleta to win American Idol but the title was snatched in the finale by David Cook. I didn’t see that coming! Anyway the best bit of the finale wasn’t from a David, it was from a George: George Michael singing Praying for Time after the final 12 had done a GM medley. Check it out…

A clip from across the pond here, as David Archuleta sings Imagine in last week’s American Idol. This guy is seriously talented and will almost certainly win the competition. His version of Imagine reduces Paula to tears, and she calls it one of the most moving performances she’s ever seen. What do you think?

So I caught the finale of American Idol on ITV2 last night.

Some thoughts came to mind:

• Blake really wasn’t very good. His beatboxing performance was near awful.
• When the top 6 guys performed, you’d have no clue Blake was the top guy. How did he make it to the last 2!!?
• Smokey Robinson has a very smooth, tight face. He won’t mind me pointing that out ‘cos he don’t care what we say about him.
• Cat Deeley is really dreadful and comes across as amazingly insincere
• Paul Abdul shouldn’t be a judge
• Jordin was great
